This Year's WinnerA $1,000 Britton John Broatch Memorial Scholarship was presented to Daniel Patrick Geier on June 9. Mr. Geier will attend Central Connecticut State University to study civil engineering. The scholarship is awarded in memory of Britton John Broatch, a 1996 graduate of Foran. In addition to this year's scholarship, the Foundation also made donations to Habitat for Humanity of St. James Parish, Americares relief flights to Haiti, the Heron Family Fund, The Ralph J. Russo Fund, the Michael Burke Educational Fund, and Boys and Girls Village. Proceeds for the Foundation's charitable activities are generated by an annual Wiffle Tournament, the largest in Connecticut. Britton John Broatch Memorial Scholarship:
Britton was a 1996 graduate of Joseph A. Foran High School. He died in the summer of 2003 of a brain aneurism.
An annual scholarship in his name will be awarded to two graduating seniors of Joseph A. Foran H.S. for the purpose of higher education. The criteria for the scholarship are that the senior preferably have participated in a high school sport, has a good academic record and will be attending a Connecticut public college.
Applications for the scholarship can be picked up in the guidance department of Foran H. S. and must be returned to guidance no later than April 23, 2010. All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee of the Britton John Broatch Memorial Scholarship. They will be kept confidential and destroyed after the final selection is made.

Our Mission:
The mission of Britton John Broatch Memorial Foundation, Inc. is to raise funds for a Britton John Broatch Memorial Scholarship at Foran High School in Milford, Connecticut, to aid individuals in need of emergency financial assistance, and support not-for-profit organizations in the greater Milford area.
The Britton John Broatch Memorial Foundation was started in 2003 to fund an annual scholarship and other charitable gifts. Over the past three years we have had the great privilege of awarding four scholarships and have donated to several worthy causes.
Some of the Foundation’s contributions have included gifts in Britton’s name to both local and global causes. Among the organizations receiving gifts were the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army to help aid in the relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina, the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the AmeriCares Foundation for South Asia Tsunami Relief, the C.R.O.P. Walk, Oxfam to assist in African Famine Relief, The MS Society and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-day, The Kennedy Center and Big Brothers and Sisters.
Local organizations that received Britton John Broatch Memorial Foundation donations were, the Milford Library, the John Tartaglio Fund, the Daniel Quirk Memorial Scholarship, the Kenny Gibson Kidney Transplant Fund, the Dillon Flannigan Foundation, the Jason Bousquet Cancer Fund, the Hill Children’s Education Fund, N.E.A.D.S., Operation Fuel (A program that helps pay the fuel bills of those in need during the cold winter months), Mark Edward Bouteiller Scholarship Fund and Joey Wideman Fund.
We are honored to make these gifts in Britton’s name and know that he would be proud of the good that is associated with the Foundation. With continued fund raising efforts and the Foundation’s supporters, we will be able to continue assisting those in need and granting annual scholarships in Britton’s name.
A wonderful legacy for a wonderful man.
